  • βœ“Contact a funeral director – They will guide you through the entire process and collect the body
  • βœ“Register the death – At the hospital (if death occurred there) or ICA within 24 hours
  • βœ“Notify immediate family – Inform close relatives and friends as soon as possible
  • βœ“Decide on burial or cremation – Based on religious/family preferences
  • βœ“Determine wake location – Home, HDB void deck, or funeral parlour

βœ“ Week 1: Funeral Arrangements

  • βœ“Choose funeral package – Select casket, services, wake duration based on budget
  • βœ“Arrange religious services – Engage monks/priests/pastors for funeral rites
  • βœ“Plan catering – If providing meals for attendees during wake
  • βœ“Send obituary notices – Notify extended family, friends, colleagues via WhatsApp/newspaper
  • βœ“Prepare eulogy/tributes – Coordinate with family members who will speak
  • βœ“Apply for CPF funeral grant – Submit claim form to CPF Board

βœ“ After the Funeral: Estate Settlement

  • βœ“Locate the will – Check if deceased left a will with lawyer or at home
  • βœ“Apply for Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration – If estate value exceeds $50,000
  • βœ“Settle outstanding bills – Utilities, credit cards, loans, insurance premiums
  • βœ“Claim CPF savings – Beneficiaries can claim deceased's CPF balance
  • βœ“Cancel subscriptions – Phone, internet, memberships, etc.
  • βœ“Seek grief support – Consider counseling if needed (see below)
